In the live recording of Hallgató in the Great Hall of the Liszt Academy in Budapest, an organic and moving program unfolds, performed by Hungary's leading acoustic guitarist Ferenc Snétberger and the country's most renowned string quartet, the Keller Quartet. They interpret compositions by Snétberger, Shostakovich, Dowland, and Barber, both together and in individual performances. Snétberger's powerful and spiritual work "In Memory of My People," a dedication to his Sinti and Roma ancestors, unites lament and festive elements. With great sensitivity and emotional depth, the Keller Quartet performs Shostakovich's String Quartet No. 8, which is also dedicated to the victims of war. Snétberger and the Keller Quartet join forces for subtle arrangements of John Dowland's "I Saw My Lady Weep," while the guitarist forms a duo with cellist László Fenyö for "Flow, My Tears." The yearning qualities of Barber's Molto Adagio from his String Quartet Op. 11 are sensitively expressed by the Keller Quartet, and Snétberger offers a glimmer of hope with his delicate solo piece "Your Smile."
