Album insights

The renowned Icelandic composer and cellist Hildur Guðnadóttir, known for her multiple awards including Oscars, Grammys, and Golden Globe, presents an exciting new film project. Collaborating with the three-time Oscar-nominated Todd Field, the film “TÁR” stars Cate Blanchett as the conductor Lydia Tár. Blanchett, deeply immersed in her role, showcases exceptional skill in leading rehearsals of a Mahler symphony on the groundbreaking concept album. Her remarkable performance at the Venice Film Festival premiere has positioned the film as a strong contender for the Oscars and Award Season 2022/23. The multifaceted album features music from and inspired by the film, including evocative new tracks by Hildur Guðnadóttir and excerpts from Elgar and Mahler's works. Intertwining with the film’s narrative, the album offers polished, real renditions of the music the fictional protagonist Lydia Tár works on in the movie. Its aim is to immerse listeners in the complexity of the musical rehearsal and recording process, mirroring the intricate journey depicted in the film. Todd Field remarks, “The album, like the film, aims to convey the intricate chaos of music-making to the listener.” Now, the album is also available as an LP.
