Villa Wahnfried Villa Wahnfried, built between 1872 and 1874 within the Bayreuth Palace grounds, served as the residence of the Wagner family and has housed the Richard Wagner Museum since 1976.
After the composer's death in 1883, he was buried in the villa's garden. The estate also includes the adjacent Siegfried Wagner House, which was converted into a private residence by Wagner's son in 1894. As part of a comprehensive renovation between 2010 and 2015, a modern museum building was constructed on a nearby plot of land acquired by Winifred Wagner in the 1930s. The complex, which also includes the National Archive of the Richard Wagner Foundation, offers visitors a profound insight into Wagner's history in Bayreuth. From the villa, guests also have direct access to the Hofgarten, the baroque park of the New Palace in Bayreuth, and can stroll through it. Together with the Bayreuth Festival Theatre, Wahnfried has become a major attraction for Wagner enthusiasts.
