Album insights

Celebrating the 20th anniversary of his 2004 album "The Blue Notebooks," composer Max Richter has released a digital deluxe version and an exclusive vinyl edition. The album, composed in 2003, draws inspiration from Franz Kafka's work, "The Blue Octavo Notebooks." During his performance at the 2023 Glastonbury Festival, Richter described the album as a response to the political climate preceding the Iraq War, expressing his doubts and channeling Kafka’s influence as he composed it. This reissue includes all tracks from the 15th anniversary edition along with the first-ever vinyl release of the This Bitter Earth/On The Nature Of Daylight mash-up and a new solo piano version of On The Nature Of Daylight. Available in a limited hand-numbered edition, the physical package comprises two transparent vinyl records housed in a redesigned blue gatefold sleeve. It also comes with a booklet, an art card, and photos from Richter's memorable 2023 Glastonbury performance.
