César Franck
The album featuring works by César Franck and Gabriel Fauré, performed by Daniel Barenboim and the Berlin Philharmonic, was released digitally on CD on October 11. In June 2023, Barenboim conducted a French program with the Berlin Philharmonic, including Franck's Symphony in D minor and Fauré's Orchestral Suite for the incidental music to Maeterlinck's 'Pelléas et Mélisande'. This exceptional concert inspired Barenboim to record for Deutsche Grammophon, commemorating their decades-long artistic collaboration. This year also marks the 60th anniversary of Barenboim's first appearance as a solo pianist with the Berlin Philharmonic; he first conducted the orchestra in 1969. Furthermore, 2024 will mark the 100th anniversary of Fauré's death.
