Anne-Sophie Mutter & Herbert von Karajan: The Beethoven Summit

The collaboration between Herbert von Karajan and the young Anne-Sophie Mutter spanned just over a decade, from the late 1970s until the conductor's death in 1989. It was one of the most fascinating and fruitful musical partnerships of the time – and resulted in many great performances captured on record and video. Eric Schulz's fascinating documentary focuses on one of those great performances, the 1984 film of Beethoven's Violin Concerto, which didn't reach the musical public until after 1989. With contributions from Mutter herself, as well as other artists, and featuring rare archive footage, this documentary offers an intimate account of this great musical partnership as well as what went into creating this compelling performance.
