Nestled in the wooded foothills of the Swabian Alps, the spa town of Bad Urach is Germany at its most Romantic; a landscape that inspired some of the greatest imaginations of the 19th century. So what better location than the town’s characterful Festhalle for this celebration of German song and the words that inspired it from the legendary baritone Hermann Prey and actor Nikolaus Paryla? Filmed in 1988, this lovely recital features Romantic lieder by (among others) Loewe, Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, Mendelssohn, Liszt, Strauss and Schoeck, all framed by the poetry of Uhland, Kerner, Hauff and Schwab – to magical effect.
- Soloists:
- Hermann Prey (Baritone), Leonard Hokanson (Piano), Nikolaus Paryla (Narrator)
