This 2022 concert from Prague’s Rudolfinum brings together the Czech Philharmonic and Semyon Bychkov with Yuja Wang, one of the defining pianists of her generation. She opens the programme with Rachmaninoff’s First Piano Concerto, a youthful score already marked by rhythmic drive and expansive lyricism, shaped here with her characteristic clarity and focus. The second half is devoted to Janáček’s Glagolitic Mass, a work of fierce conviction and singular imagination. Joined by the Prague Philharmonic Choir and an accomplished team of soloists, Bychkov and the orchestra bring urgency and weight to a score whose raw energy and ritual power remain unmistakable.
