Two musical legends meet on the stage of London’s Royal Albert Hall: Martha Argerich and Daniel Barenboim join forces with the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra in this thrilling concert from the 2016 Proms. Jörg Widmann’s bracing Con brio opens the programme, before Argerich tackles Liszt’s First Piano Concerto, her playing as brilliant and virtuosic as ever, followed by a special encore: she and Barenboim side by side for Schubert’s Rondo in A. After the interval, Wagner takes over: excerpts from Tannhäuser, Götterdämmerung, Die Meistersinger and Lohengrin put WEDO’s young players through their paces in a thrilling selection of highlights – setting the seal on an unforgettable evening from this iconic venue.
