Arthur Rubinstein in London: Chopin, Grieg & Saint-Saens

More than three quarters of a century after the 13-year-old Arthur Rubinstein triumphed playing Saint-Saëns's thrilling Second Piano Concerto as a teenager in Berlin, the pianist returns to the work in this performance with the London Symphony Orchestra and André Previn. The legendary recording session at London's Fairfield Hall is completed with the then 88-year-old performing two more staples of the Romantic concerto repertoire by Grieg and Chopin, and offering abundant evidence still of the power, nobility, profundity and technique that made him one of the most important – and best loved – pianists of the 20th century.
