Tobias Kratzer directs Gounod's Faust – with Benjamin Bernheim

Tenor Benjamin Bernheim has established himself as a new star in the operatic firmament, excelling in particular in in French and Italian operas of the 19th century. The title character in Gounod's Faust, based on Goethe's play, is one of the singer's signature roles, showcasing his lyrical finesse, malleable timbre and faultless top notes. In staging this opera – a huge global hit in the decades following its premiere – Tobias Kratzer once again succeeds in combining the unconventional with the contemporary, taking advantage of cutting edge video technology to focus in particular on society's obsession with youth.
