DG 120 Gala concert at the Berlin Philharmonie – with Lang Lang
Filmed live at a special concert in Berlin to celebrate 120 years of the Yellow Label, Lang Lang joins Manfred Honeck and the Staatskapelle Berlin for Mozart's Piano Concerto in C Minor, K. 491. One of the composer's most ambitious and forward-looking works in the genre, it features a first movement of intense drama, a beautifully tender Larghetto and a theme-and-variations final movement which brings the work to powerful conclusion. Often seen as anticipating the music of Beethoven, it is here performed alongside two of the overtures the composer produced to introduce different versions of his only opera, Fidelio, while Lang Lang provides contrast with his choice of encore, Chopin's Grande valse brillante, Op. 18.
