Violinist Renaud Capuçon joins forces with his compatriot Alexandre Kantorow – gold medal winner at the prestigious Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 2019 – to perform Brahms's three violin sonatas. Composed between 1878 and 1888, the three sonatas show the composer at his most consummate, covering a wide variety of moods, from the beautifully relaxed lyricism that opens the First Sonata to the virtuosity and passion of the finale of the Third. Capuçon brings decades-long experience of the sonatas to this concert from the Mozarteum in Salzburg – recorded during the 2023 Salzburg Festival – and Kantarow proves a superb partner.
