Clementi's Historical Significance
Clementi was a major early specialist of the piano and among the first to write major repertoire for it. His pioneering collection Gradus ad Parnassum remains a foundational set of studies for advanced pianists. While Clementi taught John Field and other notable pianists such as Ignaz Moscheles, Johann Baptist Cramer, Giacomo Meyerbeer, Friedrich Kalkbrenner, and Johann Nepomuk Hummel, his role as a mentor did not include Carl Czerny directly.
