Album insights
Herbert von Karajan collaborated with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra on multiple recordings of Anton Bruckner's works. The recordings of the nine symphonies, made between 1975 and 1981, have attained a cult status. These analog recordings (Symphonies 4-9) are limited, numbered, and have been given the highly acclaimed "White Glove" treatment in line with their cult status, introduced with the Original Source Series. Through the remarkable efforts of Rainer Maillard and Sidney C. Mayer at the Emil Berliner Studios, their previous 4-track mastering process was expanded to master and cut from the original 8-track tapes—an endeavor that required the construction of a new, specially crafted deck. The digital recordings of Symphonies No. 1-3 from 1980 and 1981 were remastered and edited by the same team, enhancing the sound quality through the use of new, tailor-made digital-to-analog conversion technologies.
