Dr. Ulrich Leisinger
The Serenade in C major, K. 648, nicknamed "A Very Little Night Music," has been identified as a previously unknown work by Mozart. This composition, written in Mozart's early youth for his sister Nannerl, consists of seven short movements and is scored for two violins and bass. The discovery was made during intensive research by the International Mozarteum Foundation Salzburg under the direction of Dr. Ulrich Leisinger. The piece was found in the Leipzig Music Library and presented to the public in September 2024. International interest in this music became particularly evident when a copy surfaced in Leipzig. The Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, under Herbert Blomstedt, spontaneously decided to make time available for recording the Serenade in C, whose development is similar to the well-known "Eine kleine Nachtmusik." Originally conceived as chamber music, the work is now primarily performed in an arrangement for string orchestra.
