Bach's Goldberg Variations
In September 2020, Lang Lang presented his performance of Bach's Goldberg Variations, often described as a 'musical Everest'. This release comprised two complementary recordings: a live recording from the historic St. Thomas Church in Leipzig, where Bach worked for nearly three decades and where he is buried, and a studio recording. The Chinese pianist, then 38 years old, had dedicated more than two decades to this monumental piano work and described the recording as the fulfillment of a lifelong dream. The two interpretations were released as part of a special deluxe edition, offering listeners a unique glimpse into Lang Lang's artistic development.
