Bach's St. John Passion

On Good Friday 2021, John Eliot Gardiner conducted a live broadcast of Bach's St. John Passion from the historic Sheldonian Theatre in Oxford. The Monteverdi Choir and the English Baroque Soloists returned to the concert stage with this performance. The unique ambiance of the Sheldonian Theatre provided the backdrop for this special event, in which a dynamic ensemble of soloists joined the Monteverdi ensembles. The broadcast was available in high definition on Deutsche Grammophon's digital platform, DG Stage. The Sunday Times described the performance as "An Easter feast for the eyes and ears" and awarded it four stars. The recording features exceptional young soloists and choral singing characterized by intense drama, expressive nuance, and captivating musicality.
