John Eliot Gardiner John Eliot Gardiner is considered one of the most important Bach interpreters and has made a decisive contribution to the dissemination of Bach's works. His 1987 recording of the Christmas Oratorio was highly praised.

More than 35 years later, Gardiner, together with the Monteverdi Choir and the English Baroque Soloists, presents a new version of this famous work. The recording was made in December 2022 during two evenings at St. Martin-in-the-Fields Church in London. The Christmas Oratorio consists of six cantatas that explore different biblical stories. For Gardiner, Bach's music embodies boundless creative power and imagination; its energy and inspiration are still palpable after almost three centuries. The new album is being released in digital format, on CD, and on Blu-ray, just in time for Advent – accompanied by an informative booklet.
