J.S. Bach Together with the internationally acclaimed organist Christian Schmitt, Magdalena Kožená presents a diverse program of sacred music on her latest album, spanning from the Baroque era to the 20th century.
The recording includes works from Germany, Austria, France, England, and her native Czech Republic. Alongside the German song tradition with compositions by J.S. Bach, Hugo Wolf, and Franz Schubert, French sounds also feature prominently, for example, through pieces by Maurice Ravel, Georges Bizet, and the Parisian organist Maurice Duruflé. Particularly noteworthy is the interpretation of works such as Bizet's "Agnus Dei" and Verdi's "Ave Maria," which reveal lesser-known facets of these composers and are often associated more with grand opera houses than churches, thus adding depth and variety to the repertoire.
