Max Richter
Max Richter's musical composition "Infra" was created as an artistic collaboration with the Royal Ballet in London and choreographer Wayne McGregor. The ballet premiered in 2008 and was conceived as an artistic response to the terrorist attacks of July 2005. Richter later developed this music into a full album, as the composition continued to captivate him. For his work, arranged for piano, string quartet, and electronic elements, the composer drew inspiration from Schubert's Winterreise, Müller's song cycle, and Eliot's "The Waste Land." Richter's characteristic, hypnotic soundscape is clearly evident in "Infra." The music magazine Pitchfork described the composition as so overwhelmingly beautiful that it leaves a painful impression.
