Siegfried's Death and Funeral March
On March 11, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra celebrates its 275th anniversary and simultaneously introduces Andris Nelsons as its new Kapellmeister. On this anniversary day, Nelsons will conduct Bruckner's Symphony No. 7, which has a close connection to the orchestra's rich history, as it was first performed in Leipzig in 1884. For this special occasion, Nelsons impressively combines Bruckner's Seventh Symphony with Wagner's "Siegfried's Death and Funeral March." Through this pairing, he highlights the compelling similarities in expressiveness and musical language between the two composers.
