Symphony No. 9 in D Minor, WAB 109

Andris Nelsons and the Gewandhaus Orchestra continue their acclaimed Bruckner cycle with Symphonies Nos. 6 and 9. This symphonic program is complemented by compositions by Richard Wagner, including the Siegfried Idyll and the Prelude to Act I of Parsifal. Nelsons, a three-time Grammy Award winner, brings a special lightness and poetry to Bruckner's large-scale works. The Sixth Symphony, in particular, one of Bruckner's own favorites, captivates with its clear structure, while the central Adagio, with its dark, unsettling atmosphere, is reminiscent of Mahler. Bruckner devoted over a decade to his Ninth Symphony until his death and described it as his "most audacious" composition.
