Wagner. Nelsons

Since 2018, Andris Nelsons has been the Gewandhaus Orchestra's Kapellmeister, emphasizing that Bruckner's music is deeply rooted in the musicians' understanding of their work. The Bruckner cycle, developed in collaboration with the orchestra and widely acclaimed, is nearing its conclusion and uniquely unites the symphonies with orchestral works by Wagner. Nelsons considered it a natural fit to present Bruckner and Wagner together, as Bruckner was a great admirer of Wagner and engaged deeply with his music. As part of this project, Nelsons' interpretation of Bruckner's Symphony No. 0, the so-called "Nullte," will be performed for the first time with the Gewandhaus Orchestra; Wagner's overtures to "Rienzi" and "The Flying Dutchman" will also be performed.

Nelsons considered it a natural choice to present Bruckner and Wagner together, given that Bruckner was a great admirer of Wagner and engaged intensively with his music.
