John Williams
The relationship between composer John Williams and the Los Angeles Philharmonic dates back a long way. After Arthur Fiedler fell ill, Williams, at the urging of Ernest Fleischmann, first conducted the orchestra at the Hollywood Bowl in the summer of 1978. Williams was in London at the time. The Hollywood Bowl quickly became a central venue where Williams showcased and legitimized his film music. In 2000, he was among the first members of the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame. In 2003, Williams conducted the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the world premiere of his work 'Soundings' during the 'Soundstage L.A.' opening gala for the Walt Disney Concert Hall. His music, initially considered 'low art,' has become some of the most popular and highly regarded musical works of the 20th and 21st centuries.
