Ludwig van Beethoven

An die ferne Geliebte, Op. 98

Matthias Goerne Matthias Goerne, baritone, and Jan Lisiecki, pianist, have released a joint album that focuses on the multifaceted art of Beethoven's song.

For this project, the two artists joined forces to highlight the diversity of Beethoven's songs in a special way. Goerne emphasizes that dialogue on equal footing with concert pianists is particularly important to him, especially given Beethoven's demanding piano parts. Goerne describes the collaboration with Lisiecki as enriching, as Lisiecki impresses with his quick grasp of concepts and his ability to precisely translate Beethoven's musical ideas at the piano. The album includes, among other pieces, the Six Songs to Texts by Christian Fürchtegott Gellert, as well as Beethoven's most famous song, "An die ferne Geliebte" (To the Distant Beloved).
