Franco Fagioli On his latest solo album, Franco Fagioli presents masterpieces from the late Baroque period, including arias by Leonardo Vinci, a key pioneer of Neapolitan opera.
The album, 'Leonardo Vinci – Veni, Vidi, Vinci', which features seven world premieres, was created in collaboration with the ensemble Il Pomo d'Oro, led by concertmaster Zefira Valova, who practice historically informed performance. Vinci's compositions thrilled audiences in the 18th century and continue to captivate listeners today with their virtuosity and expressiveness. Following the successful premiere of his first serious opera in Naples in 1722, he shifted his artistic focus and significantly shaped the 'opera seria'. With his melodic simplicity and penchant for ornamentation, Vinci influenced many composers during his lifetime, including his pupil Pergolesi and contemporaries such as Vivaldi and Handel. Franco Fagioli received excellent reviews for his previous album, 'Handel Arias', from the magazine 'Gramophone', which particularly praised his 'thrilling coloratura', the 'diverse vocal nuances', and his 'dramatic drive'.
