Schnittke: Works for Violin and Piano

Daniel Hope, Alexey Botvinov

Duration60 Min

Daniel Hope

In his tribute, the internationally acclaimed violinist Daniel Hope pays tribute to Alfred Schnittke, one of the most extraordinary composers of the 20th century, with great intensity. Hope impressively brings out the melodic expressiveness and sonic diversity of Schnittke's music. Listeners discovering Schnittke's works for the first time are often surprised by how, for example, the Suite in the Old Style draws on musical traditions of bygone eras and employs a musical language that would have been familiar even to Mozart. Schnittke's sophisticated treatment of older styles led to almost as much conflict with the authorities in his Soviet homeland as his modern experiments with polystylism. Together with pianist Alexey Botvinov, Daniel Hope performs a chamber music program characterized by creative energy. In the booklet, Hope also recounts a formative encounter with the already famous composer, which he had when he was 15 years old.
