Album insights
Brother Alois, the Prior of the Taizé Community, emphasizes the universal human longing for peace. In a world plagued by wars, terrorism, and hunger, Taizé's unique music offers listeners a sense of inner tranquility and spiritual inspiration. The inaugural project "Taizé – Music of Unity and Peace" represents the community's collaboration with a major label. Through these pieces, the serene and welcoming voices of international pilgrims, who converge regularly in Taizé, are captured. Founded in 1940 by Brother Roger, a Swiss native who would have turned 100 in 2015, Taizé initially served as a sanctuary for refugees during the German occupation in World War II. Presently, the Taizé community comprises around 100 brothers from diverse Christian denominations representing 30 countries. Celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2015, Taizé has evolved over the decades as a refuge for young individuals and a popular pilgrimage destination, naturally birthing its own music sung in Latin, German, French, Italian, and English, reflecting the diverse origins of Taizé pilgrims.
