Album insights
Albrecht Mayer, renowned oboist, is set to release his new album "Longing for Paradise" on May 17, 2019, in collaboration with the Bamberger Symphoniker. This album delves into the musical exploration of war and the yearning for paradise amidst a world engulfed in chaos. Included in this work is Richard Strauss's sole oboe concerto, composed shortly after the Second World War. It stands as one of the most challenging pieces within the oboe repertoire, capturing a moment of serene beauty amidst global turmoil. The repertoire is enriched by Edward Elgar's Soliloquy, a segment from an unfinished suite for oboe and orchestra, a reinterpretation of Maurice Ravel's renowned Le Tombeau de Couperin, and a lesser-known masterpiece from Eugène Goossens. This captivating selection will be showcased at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg on May 28, 2019, then again on May 29, 2019, as part of the Yellow Lounge series featuring the Bamberger Symphoniker. Albrecht Mayer once more demonstrates his ability to curate thematically profound programs, offering a glimpse into a world where composers sought solace in envisioning a more beautiful existence, a journey towards paradise.
