Pianist Rudolf Buchbinder is joined by close musical friends for the opening of an intimate new concert space at Grafenegg – the castle’s renovated riding school – named in his honour. For this very special concert, Buchbinder naturally presides at the keyboard himself, performing music by Beethoven (the passionate early “Pathétique” Sonata) and Schubert (the A-flat major Impromptu, D. 899), and accompanying star soprano Camilla Nylund in two favourite songs by Richard Strauss. The evening concludes with the beautiful first movement of Dvořák’s Piano Quintet, Op. 81, for which the pianist is joined by Wiener Philharmoniker concertmaster Volkhard Steude and his quartet.
