Kit Armstrong: Five Centuries of Piano Music – 1820-1920: Visions
Spring Festival in Tokyo
Few artists would undertake such an ambitious project as Kit Armstrong's five-part survey of 500 years of piano music – not only a pianistic tour-de-force, but a compelling demonstration of Armstrong's questing intellect and musicological curiosity. In this concert he covers music from 1820 to 1920, a time of remarkable development and upheaval, as demonstrated in music ranging from Chopin's haunting nocturnes via works by Debussy and Liszt to Schoenberg's Six Little Piano Pieces, Op. 19 and Leo Ornstein's modernist Suicide in an Airplane of 1913.
