Daniil Trifonov: The Salzburg Recital
Salzburg Festival, 2023
135 Min
Pianist Daniil Trifonov presents a characteristically imaginative and virtuosic programme from the 2023 Salzburg Festival. He begins with Tchaikovsky's charming Children's Album before moving on to two fantasies: Schumann's great Fantasie in C Major, Op. 17 – one of the key works of musical Romanticism – and Mozart's improvisatory Fantasie in C minor, K. 475. The programme concludes with two works from the early 20th century. Ravel's haunting Gaspard de la Nuit of 1908, one of the most technically demanding works in the whole piano repertoire, is followed by Scriabin's Piano Sonata No. 5, committed to paper over just six days in December 1907.
