My American Story – North
Star pianist Daniil Trifonov released his latest work, "My American Story – North," on October 4, 2024. This musical journey through North America is the first part of a two-volume series and reflects Trifonov's life in the USA, where he has spent almost half his life. The repertoire encompasses a wide range of styles—from jazz and swing to modernism, minimalism, and film music—covering a century of American piano music. "These pieces have given me access to many perspectives, styles, cultures, and forms of expression that have shaped my experience of America," explains Trifonov. The album features two piano concertos: Gershwin's renowned Concerto in F and the world premiere of a concerto composed especially for him by Mason Bates. Trifonov is accompanied by the Philadelphia Orchestra under the artistic direction of Yannick Nézet-Séguin. In addition, he performs solo works by John Adams, John Cage, Aaron Copland, John Corigliano, Dave Grusin, Thomas Newman, Art Tatum, and Bill Evans. "I didn't want to record an anthology," Trifonov emphasizes, "these are simply my favorite pieces that resonate with me on a musical level."
