Veni domine - Advent & Christmas at the Sistine Chapel

Sistine Chapel Choir

Production Date: 17/11/2017
52 Min

Founded around the year 600, the Papal Choir of the Sistine Chapel, in which men and boys perform together still today, is considered the oldest vocal ensemble still active in the world. The music of this Advent and Christmas concert harks back to the era when Michelangelo created the magnificent ceiling paintings for the chapel. Together with the works of art by Botticelli and Perugino, they form an unsurpassable visual background for a programme that presents the art of polyphonic music from the Middle Ages and Renaissance at its peak. Among the composers is Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, who himself served as the chapel's choirmaster.
