During the long months of the pandemic, Amsterdam's famous Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra could only stage concerts for online streaming, without a live audience. All the more moving for those involved, then, was this performance in April 2021, where a limited number of spectators were allowed inside as part of a pilot project. Pianist Víkingur Ólafsson proves to be an original interpreter of Mozart's 24th Piano Concerto, the performance of which is followed by the Third Symphony by Robert Schumann, a composer whose music is especially close to conductor Paavo Järvi's heart. "Järvi interpreted Schumann with so much energy and poetry", wrote a local critic, "that the audience thanked him with cheers, whistles and foot-tapping."
