Yuja Wang is the scintillating soloist in this open-air concert from Munich's Odeonsplatz, for which she joins the Munich Philharmonic and young star conductor Lorenzo Viotti in one her signature pieces: Rachmaninoff's Second Piano Concerto. With its memorable melodies and surging emotions, the work marked a breakthrough in Rachmaninoff's composing career after the failure of his Symphony No. 1 and is the ideal showcase for the pianist's brilliant technique and lyrical touch. The programme, which continues in popular vein, is completed by orchestral favourites by Rimsky-Korsakov, Chabrier and Ravel – plus two encores.
