Carl Nielsen was a force of nature; and from his rural youth to his irrepressible creative maturity, he found an unquenchable source of inspiration in the Danish countryside. His Sinfonia Espansiva is a great wordless hymn to nature, by turns sunlit, rapturous and explosive, and with soprano Liv Redpath and baritone Johan Reuter adding their voices to Fabio Luisi's performance it's never sounded more individual – or inevitable.
