Rolando Villazón stars as the legendary musician Orpheus in this staging of Monteverdi's opera – the first undisputed masterpiece of the genre – from the Bayreuth Baroque Opera Festival. Streamed live from the Bavarian town's jewel-like Markgräfliches Opernhaus, the production features a superb cast of Baroque specialists assembled around the star Mexican tenor. Innovative musician Panos Iliopoulos provides special contemporary additions to Monteverdi's score while Thanos Papakonstantinou's staging promises to bring out all the power and tragedy of Monteverdi's moving work.
