A screwball tale of scheming lawyers, bickering relatives and young love, the comic instalment of Il Trittico is one of Puccini's least expected – but most beloved – masterpieces, and this new production from the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino gives it a sparkling makeover. Director Denis Krief brings the action into the era of La Dolce Vita the sexy, sun-kissed world of 1960s Italy, with Bruno de Simone heading an expert cast as the irrepressible Gianni Schicchi himself.
