Album insights

Seong-Jin Cho, the Korean pianist, releases the first of two upcoming albums focusing on Ravel's compositions, titled "Ravel: The Complete Solo Piano Works." Cho's admiration for Ravel's thoughts, colors, and emotions has been longstanding. He considers it an honor to record all of Ravel's solo piano works and piano concertos. Cho had a deep fascination with the French composer since childhood and delved into his music extensively during his studies at the Paris Conservatory. In celebration of Ravel's 150th birthday in 2025, Cho has made the decision to record all of Ravel's solo piano works along with the two piano concertos. The pianist has always been captivated by French piano literature, finding both the orchestral sound of the solo pieces and the composer's meticulous attention to detail challenging. Cho emphasizes the importance of following Ravel's precise playing instructions, stating that Ravel knew exactly what he wanted. Cho's sensitive interpretations of Ravel's works underscore his position as one of the most elegant and accomplished pianists of today. The album will be available in digital and CD formats. Following this, on February 21, Cho will release the second album, featuring Ravel's piano concertos in G major and for the left hand, performed with accompaniment from the Boston Symphony Orchestra under Andris Nelsons.
