Giuseppe Verdi

Oberto, Conte di San Bonifacio / Act II

Luciano Berio

I warmly welcome you to a fascinating musical journey through Verdi's tenor works. The program begins with an aria from his debut opera, "Oberto," followed by pieces from his early years, well-known operas, and later compositions. Along the way, we will also encounter songs orchestrated by Luciano Berio, the tenor solo from the impressive "Messa da Requiem," and Verdi's last aria written for tenor. Interpreting Verdi means experiencing the timeless melody of the human soul in its myriad variations. As a man of the people, Verdi possessed an extraordinary talent for capturing the deepest emotions of the heart in music. Simplicity and naturalness were particularly important to him in his art, underscoring his humility as a composer. Together with the Orchestra of the Teatro Regio Torino, conducted by Gianandrea Noseda, I have had the privilege of exploring Verdi's boundless musical universe – from still, blue depths to mighty storms, gentle waves, and fiery sunsets. It was a great pleasure to begin this journey together with my esteemed colleague Mojca Erdmann. We wish you much enjoyment and hope that after listening you will be inspired to immerse yourself in Verdi's impressive sound world. – Rolando Villazón
