Album insights
Camille Thomas, selected by Paris Match in 2016 as the "Young Soloist of the Year," has now become the first cellist signed exclusively to Deutsche Grammophon in about 40 years. Her debut album breathes new charm into French Romanticism, featuring works by Camille Saint-Saëns and Jacques Offenbach. Reflecting her affinity for French Romantic music, Thomas infuses her own delicacy and expressiveness into pieces for cello and orchestra. Notable in the album is Saint-Saëns's Cello Concerto No. 1 and a captivating excerpt from Offenbach's "Harmonies des Bois." Recorded with the Orchestre National de Lille under Alexandre Bloch, the album includes guest appearances by star tenor Rolando Villazón and violinist Nemanja Radulović.
