Album insights
Daniel Hope, an esteemed violin virtuoso and orchestra conductor, took the lead in arranging the celebrations for Yehudi Menuhin's 100th birthday on April 22, 2016. His album dedicated to Menuhin features works he rehearsed and performed with him as a young boy, including Vivaldi's Double Concerto in A minor, Bartók's Duos for Two Violins, and Mendelssohn's early Violin Concerto in D minor. In addition to these renowned pieces, the selection includes commissioned works by composers such as Takemitsu, Reich, Henze, and El-Khouri specifically for Menuhin, alongside compositions by Elgar, Ravel, Tavener, Enescu, and others. Hope collaborated with outstanding colleagues like violinists Daniel Lozakovitj and Simos Papanas, pianist Jacques Ammon, soprano Chen Reiss, and mandolinist Avi Avital, as well as members of both the German Chamber Orchestra Berlin and the Basel Chamber Orchestra to pay tribute to his mentor Menuhin.
