International Chopin Piano Competition
The 17th International Chopin Piano Competition, which spanned three weeks, attracted numerous young pianists from around the world and offered a diverse musical program. Seong-Jin Cho from South Korea, then 21 years old, won the final by a wide margin. Following his triumph, a recital album featuring live recordings of the winner will be released by Deutsche Grammophon on November 6. This release marks the beginning of a strategic collaboration between the Chopin Institute in Warsaw and Deutsche Grammophon, aimed at promoting outstanding Chopin interpreters. The prestigious competition has already produced legendary pianists such as Maurizio Pollini, Martha Argerich, Krystian Zimmerman, Yundi, and Rafal Blechacz. An 11-CD box set, including recordings by prizewinners from 1927 to 2007, is also planned for 2015. Seong-Jin Cho, this year's winner, stated that winning this prestigious competition was a dream come true. Chopin's music is full of emotion and speaks directly to the heart; he hopes the recording will move listeners in the same way. An EP featuring two excerpts from the upcoming album was released on iTunes on November 2, 2015.
