Krzysztof Penderecki
To mark Krzysztof Penderecki's 85th birthday, Deutsche Grammophon is releasing a double CD featuring various works by the composer. Performed by the exceptional violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter, the recordings include compositions for violin and piano as well as orchestral works. Mutter and Penderecki share a profound friendship spanning more than three decades. This special relationship led the composer to dedicate his Second Violin Sonata to her; the sonata premiered in 2000 and is now available as a recording for the first time. With 'Hommage à Penderecki,' Mutter not only honors her longtime musical companion but also demonstrates her multifaceted interpretive abilities. In addition to the world premiere recording of the Second Violin Sonata, the album also includes works such as La Follia, Duo Concertante, and Metamorphosen, thus offering a rich insight into Penderecki's diverse and profoundly moving oeuvre.
