Composed by Jeanine Tesori, with libretto by George Brant. The most prolific female composer in American theater history, Tesori is the two-time Tony Award winner behind a string of Broadway hits. In recent years, she has also turned her attention to opera and made history in 2024 as the first female composer to have a work open a Met season. That opera, Grounded, is based on a play by Brant about a fighter pilot whose unexpected pregnancy lands her behind the controls of an unmanned Reaper drone. This performance stars mezzo-soprano Emily D’ Angelo and tenor Ben Bliss in a powerful production by Michael Mayer, who brings the world of high-tech warfare to life with an array of dynamic LED screens.
