As his global tour performing the work draws near to its conclusion, Víkingur Ólafsson brings Bach's Goldberg's Variations to his hometown, presenting them to an Icelandic audience in Reykjavík's iconic Harpa Concert Hall. Following up on his critically acclaimed album, the pianist has performed the variations – which he describes as "an encyclopedia of how to think and dream on the piano" – in dozens of venues across the world, each concert giving him the chance to explore each time anew Bach's work. "One often plays the Goldberg Variations very differently from one performance to the next," he has written, "and to play the whole piece 88 times feels almost like a religious pilgrimage, or a conceptual work of art."
