Mozart & Contemporaries
On September 3, 2021, Deutsche Grammophon will release Víkingur Ólafsson's album "Mozart & Contemporaries." In it, the pianist explores the interplay of light and shadow in Mozart's music by combining the composer's favorite works with pieces by Haydn, C.P.E. Bach, Galuppi, and Cimarosa. Ólafsson focuses particularly on Mozart's output in the 1780s, a period in which the image of the child prodigy was evolving and deeper, more nuanced sonic textures were emerging. His fourth album impresses with this remarkable versatility; he has previously been honored with awards such as the Opus Klassik and the BBC Music Magazine Award. The release comes in an elegant mint-condition package and includes a personal essay by the artist in the booklet.
