Nadine Sierra and Bryn Terfel lead the cast in Laurent Pelly’s sunny production of Donizetti’s most popular comedy, L’elisir d’amore, from the Royal Opera House in London. Sierra shines as the feisty Adina, the object of the naive Nemorino’s (Liparit Avetisyan) affection, while Terfel brings his unparalleled charisma and comic timing to the role of Dulcamara, the quack doctor who offers a solution that’s not quite what it seems – with unexpected results. With Sesto Quatrini conducting a Royal Opera Orchestra on sparkling form, this operatic favourite has rarely been so irresistible.
