Tilson Thomas conducts Rachmaninoff & Beethoven – with Yuja Wang

Michael Tilson Thomas is at the helm of the London Symphony Orchestra for two of the best-loved works in the whole repertoire. Yuja Wang is the soloist in Rachmaninoff's irresistible Piano Concerto No.2, bringing her characteristic virtuosity and brilliance to the melody-soaked score that marked the composer's breakthrough after a bout of depression. Beethoven's Fifth Symphony, meanwhile, needs little introduction: a work that keeps the listener gripped from its famous first notes through to its thrilling finale. And, as an appetizer, Grieg's moving song "The Last Spring", here in its orchestral guise as one of the Two Elegiac Melodies, Op. 34.
